Hello Self, I’ve Been Waiting For You
We set out on journeys to find something… to become something more. But what if we have been tricked? What if all this time the journey isn’t about becoming something, but about unbecoming everything that isn’t us so we can find who we really are.
Elizabeth Bennett in Pride and Prejudice must undergo a complete transformation on her journey to becoming a woman. She is determined and fierce but flawed. She is full of pride and preconceived ideas especially regarding Mr. Darcy. We watch in wonder as she is stripped down of everything she believes and in that moment she finds her true self.I will tell you that this blog has nothing to do with Pride and Prejudice or Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy’s arduous but romantic relationship (sigh). It has everything to do with life and how in one moment you find yourself not where you thought you’d be, but exactly where you need to be. I experienced this moment while rolling out a large piece of green marzipan that would eventually cover layers of Genoese sponge, crème patisserie, raspberry jam and whipped cream. In this moment, I realized I was happiest right where I was, elbow deep in sugar, kitchen a complete disaster; and I knew this is something I wanted (I needed!) to pursue. This blog has nothing to do with achieving perfection and everything to do with real life. And real life? Its messy… it’s a sink full of dishes, toys strewed on every surface of the house, someone needs a nap, someone needs a snack (why does everyone always need something?!?), shirt covered in who knows what and never knowing what day it is. This blog is mainly about my love for baking but also about being a mom, a farmer’s wife, a nurse and whatever else this world asks of me. This blog is about being adventurous and taking risks in the kitchen and also in life. I will never sugar coat things (unless it’s a warm cardamom bun, then I will definitely slather it with sugar!).
I promise to always tell it like it is and to show you who I truly am. A friend recently told me that when we choose to be vulnerable and put ourselves out there, that’s when real connection happens. Someone out there may be feeling exactly the way you are and maybe by opening up, we can create real meaning and fulfillment. Now how can we do this by making muffins, cakes, cookies, and bread? Well, stick around and I will show you. So without further adieu, lets get baking and I hope to see you in the kitchen real soon.

Love this! We all need to find our true self and strip away the “normal” and expected expectations we and others form in regards to what our life should be comprised of. Be unconventional and live for your excitement! I’m looking forward to following your journey! From one chef to another!
