Meet
Kayla
Several things you should know about me right away- #1 I am always in the middle of reading a book. #2 the day is not complete until I have ingested some form of confection and believe me, I’ve tried to resist and there was a lot of blood, sweat and tears. Not worth it, in case you were wondering. And #3 I have not slept-in since 2016 and I’m really not happy about it. But I tolerate it because I wouldn’t trade anything for early morning baby snuggles.
I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with my husband and our two boys and work as a Registered Nurse at our local hospital. My husband is a hard working farmer who grows things like hazelnuts, pumpkins and other crops for seeds. I love being outdoors, going for hikes and backpacking. Traveling has always held a special place in my heart and every new place I see makes me more in awe of the beautiful world we live in. When the boys are a little older, I hope to take them world wandering with us.
I couldn’t live without fiction books, music, coffee and gluten. I have so many memories as a child baking along side my grandma. Half my recipe cards are written in her hand writing and I feel nostalgic just looking at them. I love getting to share my food with my friends and family and bringing people together. There is no greater joy than being surrounded by my family, sharing a good meal together and making memories.
How did I come up with Wild & Sweet?
I was trying to think of a name that really spoke to me. I was tossing a couple ideas back and forth and I had seen a very well known quote by Henry David Thoreau “all good things are wild and free”, and it clicked- life is wild and baking is sweet. Now baking is not necessarily free, but the memories we make while doing it are priceless. Later on I made the connection that it also describes my boys and how one is a wild child living on the edge while the other is my sweetheart who I swear was dipped in sugar before he was born. But like most things in life, they can each be a bit of both at times.
My wish is to help inspire others to get in the kitchen, believe in themselves and not feel so alone in this great big world. Hope to see you in the kitchen real soon!
XO- Kayla
